The Creator of Jean & Temple, Miranda Waller
Jean & Temple was born out of Miranda's frustration at not finding luxury affordable t-shirts that could be thrown on, allowing her to feel chic at home while eating beans on toast, or when running out the door for a catch-up with friends, off to a restaurant or bar. T-shirts that would be handy with yoga sweats or for comfort when travelling ...
She started on this journey and it quickly snowballed, leading to a full collection.
Miranda wanted in her own small way to prove that anyone can do it, to break down the barriers of the fashion world. Without any fashion education or fashion experience she taught herself how to design from home, then went down the 'Alice in Wonderland' rabbit hole that is the fashion world and having your own brand.
Miranda wanted to make sure her workers’ welfare would be paramount, that her designs would be timeless, made with love by true craftsmen and built to last – staying as wardrobe essentials for herself and her friends.
If we are to be environmentally conscious, natural fibres are the only way to go. This means making sure she had the right yarn suppliers from the point of view of animal welfare and environmental welfare.
Jean & Temple tries always to have a thoughtful approach. For instance when clothes are dispatched from Nepal they are only sent on a full plane to minimise unnecessary, wasteful travel. Items are made in small batches, ensuring that these pieces stay unique and that there is zero waste.
Miranda doesn't claim to have got everything right in the process, but she has started this ethical, sustainable journey and will continue to improve processes, making sure that Jean & Temple's watchword is one of care –in her studio, in Nepal and in transit to your home.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Miranda was there introduced to her Buddhist approach to life. Now residing in London, she escapes to the countryside any chance she gets.
Miranda has always thought it's cool to be kind.
